salt crystals and finals

this week, we looked at our salt crystals from the lab last week.
i got extra credit!
it is also finals week.
i'm gonna have to study a lot, even though i don't want to.
it's only tuesday.
i'm posting this blog today because i won't have time to do it later in the week.
today we are in the computer lab, because we have to study for the chemistry final.
i heard it was pretty easy, but it think i'm gonna do bad so i gots to study more!!!
i'm not gonna blog too much this week because i need more time to study.

mole stuff!

we did a lot of stuff on moles this week.
we did worksheets.
yesturday, we weighed hole punches.
hole punches were everywhere!
all around the school!
they were very colorful and pretty!
the group that got the closest to the amount given got extra credit!
i didn't get the extra credit.
we also looked at power point slides.
to learn about the mole, we watched a video with mr. olson and his friend curtis.
it was a fun video!

attractive molecules lab

this lab was about polarity of different liquids.
there was water, acetic acid, isopropanol, and kerosene.
we charged up the wand with some wool.
then we saw if it reacted.
everything reacted besides the kerosene.
the water would move left of right or in whichever opposite direction of the wand.
yesturday we read a comic and have to answer questions.
it was polar bears and penguins.
today, i am posting this blog.
that was mainly the entire week.

smell lab

this week we didn't do much, because there was just 3 days of school, 2 days of class.
we did a lab with drawing the molecules.
we also had a worksheet for hw involving the lewis dot structures.
i finished in class, so no hw for me in chem.
we also did something where we smell different things and record what they smelled like.
some were fishy, some were sweet, and some were minty.
i couldn't really smell it out.
i just smelled them and most of them were disgusting smelling.
that was the two days of class.
today is thanksgiving and i'm gonna eat some turkey!

lewis dot stuff

we did a lab on the lewis dot structure.
we made bonds with balls and sticks.
we also had to draw it.
gilbert newton lewis's element symbols are based on the # of valence electrons.
honc 1234!
some elements from lone pairs, but not carbon and other elements in group14.
group 14 elements can form 4 bonds, the maximum number of bonds that an element can form.
now i'm gonna go do a molecule web page.

properties of metals lab

we did a lab this week about bobby pins.
we burned it, then dipped it in water to cool it.
then we looked at the result.
some broke and some stayed the same.
the lab took two days.
today, we are going to create a molecule web page.
i got vanillin.
now i have to work on it.

spectrum stuff

this week, i remembered that we did a lab with a machine thingy.
we had different colors in test tube and we put it in the machine.
then we record the number.
during this lab, we also looked at the color of chalk as we changed to number on the machine.
we had to take notes and do worksheets this week as well.
we looked at power point slides too.
that's all i remember. it was a long week.

fire lab and nuclear chem test

this week, we took the nuclear chem test on monday.
it was very hard.
i got a 76%.
also this week, we did a lab with fire.
we dipped wands in radioactive stuff and put it in the flame.
the flame changed colors.
some were very pretty.
we took notes on chapter 11 this week.
we also did a light worksheet.
it was very hard.
yep. that's all.

movie

this week, we watch a movie E=mc2. it was about chemistry and the people who were involved in the finding the equation E=mc2. albert einstein was in the movie as well as other people that i forgot the name of. i don't think we did a lab this week, but we did do a lot of worksheets on chapter 19 which is on radiation and radioactive decay. i think that's all. it was a simple week.

half life stuff

this week, we did a lab on half lives.
we used pennies!
we counted a hundred pennies.
heads represented the decayed atoms and the tails represented the not decayed atoms.
we did three trials.
then today, we graphed it using google docs.
our hw for this weekend is a worksheet about nuclear radiation.
it's a very long worksheet and it's probably going to take me a very long time.
it is going to ruin my weekend!

website work

for this weekend , our homework was to finish this website worksheet about radioactivity.
it was boring.
along the week, we did a lab where we weighted 20 pennies and found the mass of them.
we took notes as usual.
we also got our matter test back.
our homework was also to write this blog because we have to post one every week.
that's all.

dry ice

on tuesday, we played with dry ice. it was beautiful!
the foggish stuff and the bubble was very pretty!
it was really cold though.
i touched it for 1 second.
there was a lot of stem-ish stuff everywhere!!
it was fun compared to the isatest!!!!!...that was HARD!!!!
dry ice was the highlight of my week in chem

element web page

this week, we did a lot of things with the periodic table. we looked at certain elements and did labs on it. there were a lot of questions that we had to answer. that was not fun at all. we even had to do an element web page, where we choose an element and make a web page for it containing their properties and other stuff. i thought the web page was super hard because there was a lot to do and it was hard working on the computer. i don't like working with computers. we took notes for hw also about elements and the periodic table and had to do review questions. that wasn't fun either.
this week was pretty boring.

periodic table lab

in this lab, we got a stack of elements as cards. we then had to sort them out and put them in the correct order by patterns that we saw. the atomic mass increases left to right and top to bottom.
the atomic sizes increased from top to bottom. hydrogen and helium did not really fit right. after, we answered a few questions and were done!

burning wool

during this week, we did a lab with burning wool.
the wool turned bluish and greyish after it was set on fire and sparked.
we also did a density lab.
we had to find the mass or density of somethings like a rock water and foil.
then the last thing we did this week was take the test or quiz.
it was very hard and confusing. i did not like it.

measurement in chemistry

we used a pan balance to measure the mass of: a penny, nickel, marble, black rubber stop, green rubber stop, container of water, and a fishing weight.
we also found the volume of a small test tube, small glass bottle, a paper dixie cup, and a plastic cup.
the first step was predicting the mass or volume. then we found the actual mass. after that, we had to calculate the percentage we were off by.
it took 2 days to finish the lab. i did not break any test tubes!!!!

penny lab

fake gold was made.
the penny went from copper to silver to gold.
zinc turned the penny silver and the heat from the Bunsen burner turned it gold.
the fire was pretty.

goals

go and graduate from college.
buy a car (learn to drive).
buy a house.
open a petting zoo.
live for a long time.
